CHAPLAIN GUIDELINES
PURPOSE:
1. The NCCA is designed to support the efforts of our community by offering spiritual guidance and pastoral assistance to persons confronted with crisis experiences.
2. The NCCA shall seek to coordinate follow-up help, if asked, for those indicating both a need and interest in such help.
3. The NCCA shall further serve as a link, if asked, between persons in crisis and their own spiritual advisors.
4. The NCCA will be available at the request of families in times of illness, injury, sorrow and tension. The Chaplain shall not presume to replace the member's Pastor, Priest, Rabbi, Imam or spiritual leader. The Chaplain will be available, if called upon, for consultation on matters that fall within the purview of the chaplaincy and aid in areas of public service.
5. The NCCA will seek to lighten the burden of those in need by performing such tasks which tend to have greater spiritual, rather than legal, implications (e.g.death messages, domestic disturbances, lonely person calls, spiritual help requests, etc.).
PRACTICE:
1. The Chaplain shall conduct himself/herself at all times as a supporting aid to all members of the NCCA.
2. The Chaplain is NOT to assume, at any time, any minister’s role. A Chaplain's responsibility is to assist when asked to do so in matters within the Chaplain's realm. He/she shall not, in any way, interfere with a role outside in the performance of its duties.
3. The Chaplain should have basic knowledge of the duties of and seek to keep abreast of new procedures by attending all classes and training.
